IRENE KUNG. MONUMENTI

Torino (TO) 30-05-2019 / 28-07-2019

A solo exhibition of Irene Kung (Bern, 1958). Starting with the juxtaposition of images belonging to two previous photographic series, Le città invisibili (2012) and Trees (2014), Kung undertakes a visual selection that recomposes a both introspective and social study into landscape, be it urban, archaeological or natural. These elements are, for the Swiss author, like the pure foundations of vision which, stripped of the visual disturbance generated by the forms of progress and human negligence, are presented to the spectator as refined portraits emerging from obscurity. In the fifteen large works exhibited in this occasion, trees, ancient ruins and contemporary architecture take on a redeeming character, they become contemporary monuments which - thanks to the power of aesthetics and the force of the image - annul time and order the chaos with their constructive harmony.
