Pellizza da Volpedo alle Sale d’Arte

The exhibition "Pellizza da Volpedo alle Sale d'Arte" (Pellizza from Volpedo in the Art Halls) in Alessandria underlines the link between the Alessandria area and the painter Giuseppe Pellizza (Volpedo, 28.07.1868 - 14.06.1907), one of the most important masters of the beginning of the last century.

Until March 10th, 2019 two works by Pellizza from Volpedo can be admired, which are part of the artistic heritage of the Art Halls: the "L'Annegato" (The Drowned) canvas and one of the preparatory drawings of the most famous painting by the Alexandrian Master, "Fiumana" (Flood) later “Quarto Stato” (Fourth State).

The presentation of these two masterpieces provides one the opportunity for a reflection on the art and contents of an artist perhaps too little appreciated in life, but much revalued sometime after his tragic death in 1907.

The exhibition is also enriched by the insertion of a backlit canvas with the life size reproduction of Pellizza's most famous work: "Quarto Stato" (Fourth State), now preserved at the Museo del Novecento (20th Century Museum) in Milano (Milan) and now a social icon.
