VAN DYCK - PITTORE DI CORTE

Torino (TO) 16-11-2018 / 17-03-2019
Immagine guida - Particolare - Van Dyck - Pittore di corte

An extraordinary exhibition dedicated to Antoon van Dyck (Antwerp, 1599 - London, 1641), Ruben's best student, who revolutionized the art of the portrait in the 17th century. An internationally acclaimed figure and an amiable conversationalist with a refined style, Van Dyck was the official painter of the greatest courts in Europe portraying princes, queens, sirs and noble women of the most prestigious families of the time.

The exhibition, made up of four sections and over 50 works, intends to bring out the exclusive relationship that the artist had with the most authoritative courts - Italian and European - and for which he painted countless portraits, unique masterpieces for their formal elaboration, chromatic quality, elegance and abundance in the reproduction of details, satisfying the needs of representation and status symbols of the ruling classes: from the Genoese aristocrats to the royals of Torino, from the Archduchess Isabella to the court of Giacomo I and then that of Charles I of England.
