What’s happening in Canavese as Christmas approaches? So as not to get confused, let’s go in strict alphabetical order!
Caluso is still “On ice” with the ice-skating rink in Piazza Ubertini; in Ciriè, in the premises adjacent to the St Giuseppe Church, you cannot miss the 80 square metre “Nativity scene under the snow”, while in Piazza San Giovanni a real triptych has been set up: the play of lights on the façade of the St Giovanni Cathedral is combined with a very bright three-dimensional star and the ever-present Christmas tree; on Sunday 26 in the parish hall of Cuceglio “I Presepi anti j such” returns.
In Frassinetto the exhibition of decorated fir trees continues; in Issiglio there are the Reindeer Hut, the nativity scenes in the village and on Thursday 23 there is a night-time parade of Christmas-themed carriages, at the end of which Santa Claus himself will arrive accompanied by the Elves of Valchiusella; in Ivrea skating continues in Piazza Ottinetti on the large natural ice rink, open every day for young and old, and on Tuesday 21 the Piemonte Youth Symphony Orchestra will perform “Scrooge - Dickens’ Christmas Carol” at the Mozart Auditorium; the hamlet of Locana Chironio invites you to discover and visit the original Nativity scenes made from simple materials in the alleyways, by the light of lanterns. The “Christmas with us” in Mazzè includes on Sunday 26 the Christmas walk “From Shrine to Shrine”, with departure at 1.45pm from the Church of the Madonnina and arrival at the St Stefano Shrine in Candia Canavese (booking required).
And finally the “V” as Valperga, with its exhibition of Nativity scenes under the arcades of the Town Hall, and Volpiano: exhibition of nativity scenes at Oliveri Palace, Christmas Concert on Wednesday 22 in the Parish Church, “panettone”, hot chocolate and mulled wine on Friday 24 at the end of midnight mass.
