LE VILLI

19-04-2024 / 26-04-2024

The Teatro Regio di Torino's homage to Giacomo Puccini, on the 100th anniversary of his death, continues: from 19 to 26 April, Le villi, the opera with which the composer made his debut in 1884, making a name for himself for the intensity of its melodies and the strength of its symphonic writing, and in which he poured all his youthful impetuosity. Audiences at the time appreciated the skilful combination of Italian tradition and Wagnerian elements. The subject is about a heartbroken young woman who, in order to take revenge on her unfaithful lover, transforms herself into a villi, a legendary evil creature, forcing him to take part in an infernal dance that will leave him lifeless. Riccardo Frizza, a specialist in the Italian opera repertoire, conducts. The new production is curated by Pier Francesco Maestrini, who explores the supernatural and demonic world. ph.
